On our way to Cape Town on our first flight with baby, I took a moment to look out the window when we were getting closer to landing. The absolute magic that surrounds the mountains is simply incredible and I knew that this would be our new home.
Cape Town was very cold the day we came in and we had to adjust to the climate instantly.
That first day of being here and taking an Uber really far with a newborn was a bit scary but I was blessed to have my husband and Mum with me.
When we got to our new place we had loads to do.
We adjusted and started filling our place slowly with our basic needs as our items from Durban had not yet come.
Cape Town is truly a majestic city and when you gaze at Table Mountain and her beauty you instantly feel as if you are calmer and more tranquil. We were very blessed to have this view when we stepped outside of our new home.
There is nothing that makes a new home more than a crying infant... and boy did he cry!
We had to drive to an overnight medical centre in Cape Town for some help one night as we did not know why baby was crying. They had checked him and all vitals were stable. He settled after about 30 minutes but until this day we were not sure why the intense crying - maybe Colic related or just an unfamiliar environment.
Adjustment to the new home, place and the newness of everything was alot at first. We had to know how to get to the closest hospitals/ clinics, shopping mall and find new doctors for baby and ourselves.
We are blessed to be living in a technological era where thankfully all this information is at your fingertips, literally :)
Weather here can really be 4 seasons in a day weather- rain, sun, wind and cold all in one day. We learnt to always have an umbrella in the car and to always dress with layered clothing as you just never know how the day will be. Autumn and winters are however much colder than Durban and very rainy as well.
Cape Town is just bursting with vibrance, different cultures and just everything out of the ordinary as compared to what we grew up knowing. When you arrive as a resident it is a completely different ball game as to when you are a tourist.
Back in Durban we had a place for everything- a place for fresh fish, best butchery and a place for all our spices and savoury goods.
This was unknown territory and we need to do a lot of exploring and with an infant too.
Thankfully over time we have learnt the basic in's and out's and how it helps our lifestyle needs and I will continue to share over my posts.
Overall, this city is amazing, it definitely has a special ambience to it and it simply captivates your heart with all its wonder and beauty.
